A new PBS Kids survey looks at tablet use by children and how these fit into gift giving plans this holiday season; over 50% parents plan to make a technology purchase, even more than video game consoles. For them educational apps are also a top priority, as they believe “that educational apps will play an important role in children’s learning in the future”.

PBS Kids also offers 5 Useful Tips for Parents Choosing Apps: 1. Think about what your child is passionate about… 2. Distinguish what is truly educational… 3. Develop a media plan for your family: A balanced media diet includes setting limits… 4. Play together… 5. Avoid apps that try to sell: Select apps from trusted, reliable sources, and make sure that they are not trying to market to your child.
