Digital Media and Early Learning

Campus child care leaders and programs live at the intersection of child development, early learning, and children’s media. The 2012 NAEYC/Fred Rogers Center joint position statement on Technology and Interactive Media as Tools in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8, identifies both the opportunities and the obstacles of selecting, using, integrating and evaluating technology tools and interactive media in early childhood settings. Chip Donohue, co-author of the position statement, will identify common concerns, highlight key messages, share findings from children’s media research, identify best practices and offer guidance for campus child care leaders and educators about intentional and appropriate use of technology that supports healthy child development, promotes early learning, encourages interactions and social-emotional development in the early years.
