Author of Born Reading: Bringing Up Bookworms in a Digital Age Jason Boog connects the “Preparing for New Experiences” section from the interactive guide Family Time with Apps with his family experiences.

In the Joan Ganz Cooney Center blog post, Jason shares his approach of using children’s apps and books to help his daughter through her potty training and gives examples of different apps parents can use with their children that relate to their daily lives.  Additionally, he stresses the importance of parents using digital tools with their children as a way of creating shared experiences.  He writes, “Too often, we think of tablets and smartphones as passive devices, digital babysitters to fill solitary moments in our kids’ lives. But apps work best when used in an interactive experience, shared between child and caregiver.”
